While the ACT has the largest number of APS employees, most work in other parts of Australia.

  • Almost 2 in 5 APS employees were located in the ACT in December 2017—38%.
  • Almost one-fifth of the workforce was in NSW, at 19%, and a further 17% work in Victoria.
  • Nearly 1,400 APS staff, or 0.9%, worked overseas; most of these are employed by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
